Album containing photographs of Middle Kingdom, New Kingdom and Late Period antiquities and monuments, as well as some Ptolemaic, Roman, Coptic and Arab.

Album, 24 x 30 cm, “SCRAPS” impressed on the cover, 52 pages, most photographs glued onto the page (using stamp-papers) or mount-slots cut into the page. Most of the photographs are commercial picture cards of locations in the United Kingdom, typically measuring 6.5 by 10.5 cm, many with printed captions, as well as Petrie's annotations. These were presumably purchased by Petrie when travelling around the country. The majority of the photographs are commercial images. Most of the photographs are listed in the order they are presented in the album.

Album containing photographs of modern Egypt.

Modern negatives created from Petrie's original nitrate negatives which were then deaccessioned.

These photographs are the same as in the album of photographs from Italian museums (Petrie MSS 3.1), however, there is not a negative for every print. The following negatives are missing: 29, 36, 37, 81, 90, 98, 185, 213, 222, 226, 233, 234, 243, 274, 321, 352, 356, 368, 369, 413, 472 and 532.

Album (43.5 x 33.5 cm) of approx. 134 studio (including Beato) and smaller, possibly amateur photographs, put together following Miss Lane's two trips to Egypt and the Near East between 1873 and 1876. Locations include a number of cities in Egypt, Beirut, Damascus, Athens and Rome.

Collection of antiquities and miscellanea collected by Miss Lane during her trips, including stone wall fragments, some with remains of decoration, Greek and Egyptian pottery fragments (modern and ancient), rough pottery oil lamps, shells, botanical specimens, strings of mummy beads, a decorated wooden spoon with an inscription to Miss Lane, a fabric sample and an ink well in the form of a boat.

• In early December 1883, Petrie, accompanied by his friends Prof. and Mrs Sheldon Amos, charters a dahabiyeh from Cairo, travelling through the Wadi Tumilat to Ismailia, Petrie prospects sites along the way including the site for Petrie's next season which is later identified by him as Naucratis. In February 1884, Petrie begins his first large-scale excavations at Tanis which continue into June.

• At Naucratis, Petrie is assisted by F. Ll. Griffith, who is on his first visit to Egypt. In April 1885, Griffith is left to continue excavating at Naucratis while Petrie returns to Tanis to continue the previous season’s work. It was at Naucratis that Petrie earned the moniker “father of pots”, Griffith's being the “father of potsherds”, which is mentioned by Petrie in the journal.

• Petrie, assisted by F. Ll. Griffith and E. A. Gardner, resumes excavating at Naucratis. In January 1886, Gardner is left to continue excavating at Naucratis while Petrie and Griffith begin excavating at Nebesha. At the end of March 1886, Petrie moves to Dafana and excavates there.

• Petrie's main activity was the continuation of the measurement-survey of the pyramids at Giza, which was started the preceding season (1880 to 1881). This was the first season that Petrie took photographs using the pinhole camera he built himself.

• Petrie and F. Ll. Griffith charter a boat for two months which will take them from Minya to Aswan enabling them to visit many sites along the way. At the end of the two months, they return to Luxor where Petrie commences with his main task of collecting material for his “Racial Types” project which involves the photographing and making squeezes of scenes in the temples at Karnak before he moves across to the West Bank to continue this work in the temples and tombs there. Later in the season, Petrie moves on to Dahshur to survey the pyramids.

Read, not dated but presumably 1907, 3 pages, a draft of the reply in response to Read's letter of 27-03-1907, refutes Read's statement, and to the contrary, the British were in fact 'leading the way', describes his excavations in the Palace of Apries at Memphis, has funding for excavating in Egypt for the next 5 to 10 years, and the British Society of Antiquaries need to continue its support of British excavations.
