Saqqara. Pyramid of Pepi (Pepy) I.
Caption reads:
'In Pyramid of Pepi, part of 478.
In the wall is built in, as a common stone, a slab with clumsy
figures on it, badly colored; this is the only known example
of aprentice's practise, of which so much was required.'

was closed by a stone which could be taken out.'

The bricks are the size of Roman bricks, & not of earlier
forms; the chambers are full of broken Roman pottery;
and are like those of Greek and Roman villages.'

slope was not part of a pyramid, but rather of a mastaba-like
court; from the Arab name there were probably statues on
the piles: this resembling the pyramids with statues on them of Hdtus II.149.'
