Aantekeningen

Aantekening

  • The nest was probably seen by James Burton or Charles Humphreys in 1823; Joseph Bonomi could have not been at Gebel el-Zeit as he did not arrive in Cairo and meet Burton and Humphreys until November 1824. He could have copied something drawn by either of them.
  • Different versions, including two pencil drawings and a partial sketch, in the "Album of drawings of Egyptian subjects" by Joseph Bonomi at the Victoria and Albert Museum (see http://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O139782/album-of-drawings-of-egyptian-drawings-bonomi-joseph/) [perhaps by Charles Humphreys].
  • Two other watercolour versions in a Bonhams sale in 2009, and now in a private collection in Madrid (Spain) [attributed to Joseph Bonomi].
  • Another watercolour version in the Burton collection at Hastings Museum and Art Gallery [attributed to James Burton, although perhaps by Charles Humphreys].
  • Another watercolour version with the family [presumably by Joseph Bonomi].
  • We are grateful to Neil Cooke for this additional information.
