Carter MSS vii.1 (album of watercolours) formerly part of Howard Carter's estate. Bequeathed to Carter's niece Miss Phyllis Walker in 1939.
Carter MSS vii.2 (Theban landscape watercolour) and vii.3 (Luxor temple columns sketch) were formerly in private possession, see individual records for further information.

Immediate source of acquisition or transfer

Carter MSS vii.1 (album of watercolours) presented by Miss Phyllis Walker in 1946.
Carter MSS vii.2 (Theban landscape watercolour) was donated by an anonymous private collector.
Carter MSS vii.3 (Luxor temple columns sketch) donated by Mr David Orr and Mrs Alison Crawford (Arthur Mace's grandchildren) in May 2022.

There are over 50 Howard Carter watercolours in the Griffith Institute Watercolours and Drawings Collections. All were created when Carter was a member of the Egypt Exploration Fund (now Egypt Exploration Society) expeditions in the 1890s.
