Philological notes

Notebook titled 'WORDS' containing handwritten notes on hieroglyphs, including occurences of hieroglyphs, references to published sources, variations of different hieroglyphs and translations. Part of the notebook includes lists of hieroglyphs organised by subject.

The notebook is no longer held together at the spine and contains a lot of loose pages and pieces of paper.

Petrie, (Sir) William Matthew Flinders (1853-1942) - correspondence

Correspondence from Sir Flinders Petrie including relating to excavation work, finds, objects purchased from dealers and research questions.

The Percy Newberry Collection has been listed thanks to a cataloguing grant from the The National Archives in 2015. The collection comprises a wide range of material on topics including Predynastic Egypt, Theban tombs, Egyptian flora and fauna, early Egyptian travellers, ancient Egyptian religion and culture, as well as Newberry's genealogy. Formats include notebooks, research notes, photographs, tracings, rubbings and newspaper clippings.
